Switch ICs designed as a power management ICs placed between a voltage source and a load to control power supply to the load. Using mechanical relays, MOSFETs, and other discrete semiconductor devices, a comparable circuit may be built. Loadswitch ICs, on the other hand, assist to minimise circuit footprint and power consumption. These integrated circuits (ICs) are capable of storing energy in an inductor, transformer, or capacitor. And it allows the storage device to transport energy in discrete packets from the input to the output through a low-resistance switch.
The LinkSwitch LNK564PN is designed to replace all unregulated isolated linear transformer-based (50/60 Hz) power supply with output power up to 3 W. This accomplished at a similar or lower system cost while providing much improved performance and energy efficiency. A 700 V power MOSFET, oscillator, high voltage switching current source, current limit (user selected), and thermal shutdown circuitry are all included in the LNK564PN. The ON/OFF control technique is used by the IC family. As a result, it provides a design-friendly solution with a reduced system cost and increased power capabilities. It regulates the output voltage using a simple ON/OFF control, unlike traditional PWM (pulse width modulator) controllers. The self-biased circuit has a no-load power consumption of less than 150 mW. The frequency of the internal oscillator is jittered to decrease both quasi-peak and average EMI, minimizing filter cost.
The start-up and operating power derived directly from the voltage on the DRAIN pin. In a buck or flyback converter, this eliminates the requirement for a bias supply and accompanying circuitry. During fault circumstances such as short-circuit or open loop, the LNK304-fully 306’s integrated auto-restart circuit reliably limits output power. As a result, the number of components and the cost of system-level load protection are reduced. The usage of a non safety graded optocoupler as a level shifter is enabled by a local supply provided by the IC. If necessary, this will improve line and load regulation performance in buck and buck-boost converters.
