Thermoelectric Cooler Peltier SP1848

The principle of how does a refrigerator work is pretty simple. Gases get hotter when you compress them into less volume because you have to work to push their energetic molecules together. When you expand a gas, it is suddenly able to occupy much more volume. Heat energy its molecules divide over a much bigger volume of space, so the temperature of the gas cools.

This same principle applies to thermoelectric coolers. Thermoelectric coolers operate according to the Peltier effect.

The effect creates a temperature difference by transferring heat between two electrical junctions. A voltage is applied across joined conductors to create an electric current. When the current flows through the two conductors’ junctions, heat escapes at one junction, and cooling occurs. Heat goes at the other junction.

This TEC/TEG with a model number SP1848-27145 has a size of 40mm x 40mm x 4mm. It uses 4.8V and 660mA to operate and produce heat. There are 2 sides to this module, one is the cooling side, and the other is heating. To identify which side is which, you only have to look for the text imprinted in the module. The printed side is the cooling side, and the blank side is the hot side.

You could also add a heatsink for the dissipation of heat and to protect you from getting burned.

You only need to supply this with 4.8V and the connection is as follows: RED for the positive side and BLACK for the negative side.
